THE MYTHS OF BOTOX®
Myth and rumours about the effectiveness and the benefits or drawbacks of various procedures are rife in the beauty industry. Separating fact from fiction is sometimes difficult, but here we plan to look at the myths that often surround the well-known procedure of Botox®
The Melrose Aesthetic Centre is one of the leading skin care and anti-aging clinics in the country, and has used Botox® successfully and with amazing results, on thousands of people passing through its doors.
First Myth: Botox ® Injections are Dangerous
The facts: It is natural that some people may have reservations about Botox®, given that it is derived from an extremely poisonous toxin, called botulism which can cause dangerous food-poisoning. But this is baseless, as this treatment has an exemplary safety record, and besides is used in miniscule, carefully controlled amounts, which cannot cause harm. It has been in use in medical circles for numerous real medical procedures and treatments for many years with great success. Now, it has become a sought-after anti-aging treatment, and is probably the best-known and most successful worldwide. Other effective applications are its use for excessive sweating, and back pain.
It is safe in the use of the hands of professionals, but of course, some irresponsible and poorly-trained treatments have been performed that have come to the attantion of the press, which is the root of many of these unfounded myths.
Myth 2: It's cheaper at a beauty salon
The facts: To begin with, if you can get Botox injections at a beauty salon, you should most certainly not trust them. In which day and age did a beauty salon become qualified to perform non-surgical aesthetic treatments? Assuming you even find such a place, and they do offer such tretament, you'd be ill advised to use it, as you cannot have any knowledge of the product being used. We actually know of no such establishment in this country.
Myth 3: You can get Botox® creams that have replaced Botox® injections
The facts: Nonsense. This product is still undergoing testing in the USA and Britain, and certainly has not been released to the aesthetics market legally anywhere yet. It's promise is that it will be quite effective for treatments aroud the eyes, targetting crow's feet and may actually be a useful supplement to Botox® injections, but is never likely to replace it. It simply cannot be used in the same precise way as the injectable.
Myth 4: Your face will look frozen
The facts: The face has a naturally balanced look, and it is true that if incorrect dosages are used, or it is wrongly applied, some detrimental side-effects are possible. Professionals are well trained enough to avoid this pitfall. The treatment is applied in very tiny amounts and in very specific muscles, so that the anti-0aging effect is achieved without loss of facial balance or “freezing”.
Myth 5: Botox®os only for old people
You should not really have need of Botox® injections when you are young, but treatments can be performed as required, and at any age if the Specialist feels it would be beneficial to the individual case. While most people don't really get wrinkles worth worrying about until they reach their forties, early signs of aging are not unknown in younger age groups. Assuming you do develop wrinkles early, having Botox® injections may be a good option, because these wrinkles will only worsen with age. It is also known that people have sought Botox® treatments before wrinkes even show, as a prevention, and in fact the realier the treatment starts, the beneficial the long term results
